Mario Williams has returned to action. Sort of.
The Buffalo Bills announced that the pass rusher participated in defensive line drills during Saturday's training-camp practice after missing time this week with an ailing left foot. After taking part in the install portion of practice, Williams reportedly watched from the side during a string of contact drills.
Williams returned to camp Tuesday evening after leaving the team to seek a second opinion on his foot. Renowned surgeon Dr. James Andrews took a peek and said Williams needed treatment and rest. Repeated questions about Mario's whereabouts during the hiatus piqued new Bills coach Doug Marrone, who wanted answers just like anyone else.
The more pressing question for Williams -- who signed a six-year, $96 million contract with the Bills in February 2012 -- is what impact he'll make in coordinator Mike Pettine's multiple-front defense. Williams piled up 10.5 sacks for the Bills last season. He was, at times, their best pass rusher, but he can be a frustrating player on and off the field. It's time to get down to work.
