Matt Cassel made our list of preseason Week 1 winners, in large part because his competition struggled to move the offenseagainst the Raiders.
The news got even better for Cassel on Monday. Coach Mike Zimmer said the veteran will receive a second consecutive start this week versus the Cardinals, per NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport.
Depending on what happens on Saturday, Zimmer will consider starting rookie Teddy Bridgewater in the third preseason game.
"We'll see after this week," Zimmer said. "I don't know."
Whereas Browns coach Mike Pettine is not ready to name a starter for this week's game, Zimmer is clearly signaling that Cassel is in the driver's seat in Vikings' quarterback competition.
If Bridgewater wants to flip the script, he will have to be a lot more decisive with his reads in his second taste of preseason action.
