When Matt Flynn hit free agency in 2012, he was compared to Kevin Kolb as a prospect. Now, the two men are on the same roster.
The Buffalo Billsannounced the signing Monday. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport had reported the move was planned.
Flynn joins Buffalo's quarterback stew with Thad Lewis, Jeff Tuel and EJ Manuel, who is sidelined with an injury. (Kolb is on injured reserve.)
Rapoport reported that Lewis "should be fine" after spraining his foot Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals in an overtime loss. Assuming Lewis is healthy, Flynn figures to be an insurance policy.
That scenario appeared likely on Monday after coach Doug Marrone said the MRI and X-rays on Lewis' foot came back negative.

Cincinnati Bengals' 27-24 win over the
Buffalo Bills from Week 6 on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 2 p.m. ET.
"I expect him to be out at practice Wednesday, and I feel good about him being able to play on Sunday," said Marrone, who described Lewis as day to day.
Buffalo doesn't look comfortable with the possibility of Tuel hitting the field again in a regular-season game this season. We expect Flynn to back up Lewis, with the outside chance he might get some playing time if Lewis starts to struggle.
Manuel was expected to miss approximately six weeks with his knee injury, Rapoport reported last week.
