The Philadelphia Eagles stood pat at the trade deadline, deciding not to add a receiver to their disappointing convocation of pass catchers.
The current group of wideouts, led by Jordan Matthews, is one of the least-efficient groups in the NFL. Only Mathews resides in the top 120 in yards per game.
Matthews joined the chorus complaining the Eagles aren't getting enough out of their receiver corps.
"I would say no, not at all," Matthews said, via CSN Philly. "We're not playing to the level that we need to be playing at, and you can even throw me in there too. Me included with the whole group."
Even Matthews has been disappointing of late. Since his 114-yard performance in Week 1, he's averaged 50.8 yards per game.
Nelson Agholor continues to be inconsistent and isn't a downfield threat. The former first-round pick has 21 catches for 216 yards on the season. Dorial Green-Beckham (18 catches, 194 yards) shows flashes but is too raw to count on game-to-game. Josh Huff is similarly disappointing on the field (13 for 72) and off it.
"It's on us to all say internally, 'How are we each going to go out there and not just do our job but do our job to a level where, OK, now we're a threat to people,'" Matthews said.
"Because right now we're putting people in a situation where (they're saying), 'OK, this guy does this, this guy does this, he's the big guy, he's the slot.' But (we need people to say), 'OK, we need to be worried about these guys.'"
Right now no defense is fretting about Eagles receivers, especially down the field.
Carson Wentz failed to complete a pass of 15-plus air yards in the last two games. The Eagles have only 20 plays of 20-plus yards this season (only Chip Kelly's 49ers have fewer).
Some of those struggles to stretch the field have been play-calling. A lot of it also has to do with receivers who aren't a threat and are failing to make plays when given a chance.
