His father, Clay Matthews Jr., was a hero in Cleveland. His brother, Clay Matthews III, is adored in Green Bay. But things haven't gone as smoothly for Eagles linebacker Casey Matthews during a trying rookie campaign.
High expectations were attached to the fourth-rounder from the outset, primarily because of the family connection.
It hasn't gone as planned.
"It's hard. One of the earlier games, they harassed my family and made my fiancee cry," Matthews told Philly.com this week. "It's tough. It's frustrating. That's just how they are here. If you win they love you, so I guess we've just got to turn things around and just start winning again."
Not a shocking departure for the notoriously uncharitable Eagles faithful, but making helpless fiancees cry? Out of bounds, people.
