Oakland's Rolando McClain is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins, and Raiders coach Hue Jackson had not yet decided Saturday whether his troubled linebacker would play after the two finally talked, according to Comcast SportsNet Bay Area.
McClain was arrested Thursday for discharging a firearm within city limits, third-degree assault, menacing and reckless endangerment stemming from a Wednesday incident in his Alabama hometown. The eighth overall pick in the 2010 draft later was released after posting $2,000 bail.
"We'll see," Jackson told CSN Bay Area. "I feel very comfortable that we're getting down to the issues with him. This is something he has to learn from, we all have to learn from.
"I will make the best decision for the organization and the football team."
The alleged victim told a local TV station Thursday that he was ambushed by McClain and an accomplice.
According to the Morgan County Sheriff's Office, McClain renewed his pistol permit Wednesday, hours before the alleged assault occurred, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. McClain's arraignment is set for Jan. 24, and he could face 480 days in jail if convicted of all four misdemeanor charges, according to the report.
McClain reach Miami on Friday before the team, CSN Bay Area reported.
When asked by CSN Bay Area for an interview, he declined, saying, "I've been advised to not say anything. Best thing I can do is just stay quiet and get ready for the game."
Then asked if he still hoped to play, McClain said, "No reason why I shouldn't."
McClain also joined the Raiders for a walkthrough Saturday afternoon.
Jackson told CSN Bay Area that McClain was embraced by the team.
"Trust me," Jackson said. "He's remorseful, and he should be. For the situation he put his team and his teammates in…"
McClain's attorney, Billy C. Burney II, said the linebacker denies he fired a gun and said he was not involved in the fight. The NFL may take action regardless, though Jackson said emphatically he won't wait. The NFL has yet to weigh in on McClain's situation, opting to let the legal process play out before choosing a proper response.
In other Raiders news, wideouts Jacoby Ford and Denarius Moore and running back Darren McFadden have been ruled out with respective foot injuries.
