The Miami Dolphins will bring back safety Louis Delmas, NFL Media's Albert Breer reported Friday, per a team source. Delmas' agent later announced the signing on Twitter.
Delmas, who turns 28 in April, played last season in South Beach on a one-year deal. He will get the same deal this season, per Breer -- one year worth up to $3.5 million.
The safety had a solid start to the season on the Dolphins' back end before tearing his ACL in Week 14.
The hard-hitting Delmas has played well through his first six seasons when he's been able to stay on the field. However, he can't stay healthy.
Delmas has appeared in a complete 16-game slate just once in his career -- 2013, after which the Detroit Lionspromptly cut him.
If Delmas can return off the ACL tear, he pairs nicely with Reshad Jones in the Dolphins secondary. Miami also recently added Jordan Kovacs for depth at the position.
"I definitely know I'll be ready for the first game of the season," Delmas told Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald.
As one of the few big-hitting safeties left in the NFL, Delmas brings physicality to the Dolphins' back-end that meshes with the addition of Ndamukong Suh on the front end.
In other Dolphins news, running back LaMichael James signed a one-year deal Friday to stay in Miami. James appeared in two games for the 'Fins last year.
