Questions about Michael Vick's availability were answered early this week.
Vick will start at quarterback when the Philadelphia Eagles take on the New York Giants on Sunday, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported Tuesday.
After missing game action with a hamstring strain, Vick did not sound optimistic last week about a quick return. Nick Foles' Week 7 concussion on top of a disappointing perfomance now has Vick rushing back to starting job.
That news won't come as a surprise to Eagles offensive tackle Jason Peters, who backed Vick this past Sunday.
"Mike Vick is our starting quarterback," Peters told the Delaware County Times. "Foles stepped up last week and got us a win. Today we didn't get it done. Don't try to make it like it's a quarterback controversy over one game. Guys win and lose. You wouldn't do this if it was (Tom) Brady or (Peyton) Manning. We just go with our starting quarterback and we're going to go and try to win games. And if Foles or (Matt) Barkley, whoever is back there that comes in and plays if Mike can't go, we're going to back them 100 percent."
If Vick couldn't play Sunday, the job would have fallen to rookie quarterback Matt Barkley, who threw three interceptions in relief of Foles last week.
We expected Vick to start if he was healthy enough. We didn't expect a determination of his health to be made so early in the week.
UPDATE: When asked if he would play Sunday against the Giants, Vick expressed optimism to reporters Tuesday but couldn't give a definitive answer, per the Inquirer.
Barkley told CSN Philly, however, that Vick handled the first-team reps Tuesday. Vick confirmed to the Inquirer after his news conference that he expects to play this weekend.
