Mike Vick, who began his rise to stardom at Virginia Tech, will be inducted into the Hokies' Sports Hall of Fame this fall, the school announced on Tuesday.
Vick will be inducted along with the rest of the 2017 class on Sept. 22, and the class will be introduced at halftime of the Hokies' Sept. 23 game against Old Dominion.
The news of Vick's induction shouldn't surprise anyone -- his jersey has already been retired by Virginia Tech and he might be the best and most well-known athlete in the school's history.
Vick, the No. 1 overall pick of the 2001 NFL Draft, led the Hokies to the national championship game in 2000 and finished third in the 1999 Heisman voting, which is the highest finish for the award in the school's history.
He revolutionized the QB position during his career. He made three of his four career Pro Bowls with the Falcons before charges related to dogfighting brought his run with the team to an end. He made his final Pro Bowl as a member of the Eagles in 2010, and holds NFL records for rushing yards by a QB in a single season (1,039) and career (6,109).
Vick announced his retirement from the NFL earlier this year, and is currently participating in the American Flag Football League.
