Mohamed Sanu appears to have played his last snap of the season for the Cincinnati Bengals.
Harrison: Week 13 predictions
With only five games left in the regular season, it's must-win time for several clubs. Elliot Harrison provides his picks for Week 13. **More ...**
Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said Friday that the rookie wide receiver suffered a stress fracture during practice Thursday, according to The Cincinnati Enquirer. Sanu is scheduled to undergo surgery Monday.
NFL.com's Albert Breer cited a source briefed on the injury in reporting that Sanu will be out two to three months. The Bengals' official website reported that no roster move will be made Friday, but Sanu is expected to be sent to injured reserve. Lewis acknowledged Friday that Sanu's season could be over.
This is a tough loss for the Bengals, who lose a versatile player who had emerged as a legitimate red-zone threat. Sanu had four touchdown catches in the past three weeks, serving as a nice complement to A.J. Green in scoring situations. For the season, Sanu has 16 catches for 154 yards, all coming after Week 6.
With Sanu out, the window of opportunity opens for Andrew Hawkins. The wide receiver has missed the past two weeks with a knee injury, but he is in line to return to the lineup Sunday against the San Diego Chargers. His role just became more prominent.
