ESPN seems to tweak their Monday Night Football formula almost every season. For 2012, Ron Jaworski is out. We also learned Wednesday that Lisa Salters is in as their regular sideline reporter.
Salters isn't truly displacing anyone because ESPN didn't have a regular sideline reporter last year. The network used a rotation of talent and generally de-emphasized going to the sideline at all. Salters does a solid job on ABC's NBA coverage and has serious journalism chops as a former news correspondent.
We like the choice. Picking Salters over, say, Erin Andrews, is a nod toward good reporting over sizzle. Although we are a little sad there will be no John Sutcliffe sightings this season.
