N.Y. Giants' Hakeem Nicks joins Jay Z, Roc Nation

New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks' plan to earn Victor Cruz-type money started by emulating the salsa dancer's management setup.

Nicks, who will be a free agent March 11, signed with Jay Z's sports agency, Roc Nation, the receiver tweeted Thursday.

Roc Nation will handle Nicks' marketing, while CAA will handle his upcoming contract negotiations, ProFootballTalk reported. This is the same setup Cruz used prior to signing his long-term deal with the Giants last offseason.

The Giants have several players under contract who work with CAA aside from Cruz, including quarterback Eli Manning and pass rusher Mathias Kiwanuka, per Newsday.

However, even with a similar management setup as Cruz and the working relationship between CAA and the Giants, it will be difficult for Nicks to remain in New York. If he wants to get paid like Cruz, he likely will have to move on.

Nicks had a disastrous contract season, but all it will take is one receiver-needy team to fall in love with his past success and athleticism to get him paid on the open market.

On the latest edition of the "Around The League Podcast," the guys speculate on big names who could be cut, then talk offseason forecasts for the Packers and Raiders.
