The Jets selected Oklahoma wide receiver Jalen Saunders with the 104th overall pick Saturday at Radio City Music Hall. The fourth-round selection completes the business related to last year's trade of cornerback Darrelle Revis to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Gang Green added its second pass-catcher 10 picks later, taking UCLA's Shaq Evans at No. 114. Evans, at 6-foot-1 and 213 pounds, excels in jump-ball situations and has shown the propensity to make the tough grabs outside his range.
Saunders was a three-year starter at Oklahoma after transferring from Fresno State. Though he's listed at 5-foot-9 and 165 pounds, Saunders doesn't shy away from contact. NFL Media analyst Mike Mayock called Saunders "one of the most physical wide receivers in football."
Saunders joins tight end Jace Amaro as the third offensive skill player selected by the Jets in this draft. Saunders will likely do most of his work in the slot for New York, and is a strong candidate to handle special teams return duties. He returned three punt for touchdowns with the Sooners, including memorable game-winners against TCU and Oklahoma State.
The Jets' wide receiver group now includes Saunders, Evans, Eric Decker, Jeremy Kerley, Stephen Hill and David Nelson. Count it as a surprise that general manager John Idzik waited this long to add help to one of the roster's thinnest positions.
