New York prosecutors said they are discussing the possibility of a plea deal in Jets wide receiver Braylon Edwards' drunken-driving case, but it's not yet clear whether anything will result. If not, Edwards is due back in court on Jan. 11 -- during the week leading up to the Divisional round of the playoffs.
Edwards said nothing during a brief appearance Tuesday in a Manhattan court. Defense lawyer Peter Frankel said he's talking with prosecutors, but, for now, he is preparing to file paperwork to keep fighting the charges.
Edwards is charged with two counts of driving while intoxicated after he was pulled over in Manhattan early on the morning of Sept. 21. His blood-alcohol content was .16, twice the legal limit in New York, according to the criminal complaint.
Edwards could face a maximum penalty of up to a year in jail.
He already was on probation after pleading no contest to aggravated disorderly conduct in a dustup outside a Cleveland nightclub.
Edwards later apologized to teammates, fans and others for the New York arrest.
