COWBOYS LEGEND DARREN WOODSON CONCLUDES UNITED WAY "NINE FOR 90" SERVICE PROJECTS
Former Dallas Cowboys safety Darren Woodson recently joined the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas in hosting a pep rally and workshop for more than 500 local high school students in an effort to encourage the students to pursue college and make successful career choices. The event, held at the University of Texas at Arlington, began with an empowering speech from Woodson, followed by break-out sessions on topics from study tips to navigating career choices.
The workshop was the ninth and final event of UWMD's "Nine for 90" campaign, part of UWMD's 90th anniversary celebration chaired by Cowboys executive vice president and chief brand officer Charlotte Jones Anderson and CowboysHall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman. Each of the "Nine for 90" service projects have been spearheaded by Cowboys, representing the longevity of the Cowboys-United Way partnership: Aikman, Woodson, Roger Staubach, Ed "Too Tall" Jones, Charlie Waters, Tony Dorsett, Randy White, Emmitt Smith and Jason Witten. The 90th anniversary culminates with the "Unite Forever" gala and concert -- featuring Blake Shelton and Usher -- at AT&T Stadium on Friday.
COLTS DEFENSIVE END ZACH KERR HOSTS DINNER FOR HOMELESS TEENS
Zach Kerr recently teamed with Outreach, Inc. to host a dinner for local homeless teens. More than 100 young people from greater Indianapolis came to enjoy the meal with friends and mentors.
Kerr addressed the attendees and shared his own struggles with homelessness growing up. He reminded the teens to always make the most out of every opportunity and be thankful for what they have. Kerr then helped serve a freshly prepared meal alongside other volunteers.
"Partnering with Outreach, Inc. has given me the opportunity to give back to the youth in our community that I can really identify with," Kerr said. "I'm so grateful to be in a position to give my time and share my own experiences with teens that are trying to do better for themselves."
BROWNS PLAYER JOE THOMAS JOINS FUEL UP TO PLAY 60 FOR GRANT PRESENTATION
Joe Thomas, a 2015 Pro Bowler and Fuel Up to Play 60 ambassador, recently recognized Brecksville-Broadview Heights Middle School for their commitment to youth wellness. Thomas presented the school a $10,000 grant that will be used for a new indoor fitness center after it continued its excellence in promoting physical activity.
Thomas and Browns mascot CHOMPS also shared a nutritious breakfast with top-performing students from Brecksville-Broadview Heights Middle School.
After the Browns visited the school in September, students were encouraged to share how they are active, as well as encourage their classmates to take part in "For the Love of Play" by logging their daily activities, including tracking healthy eating habits.
