NFL Health Update: Panthers pay visit to Walter Reed Medical Center

CAROLINA PANTHERS SPEND TIME AT WALTER REED NATIONAL MEDICAL CENTER

Panthers center Ryan Kalil and linebacker Thomas Davis, an NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year finalist, visited service members at Walter Reed National Medical Center in Bethesda, MD last week. In partnership with the USO of North Carolina, the visit was part of the team's on-going commitment to providing support for active duty personnel and veterans. The day-long visit included a stop at the hospital for an inpatient visit with troops and their families. The players then toured the Military Advanced Training Center (MATC), where University of Southern California graduate Kalil shared stories and memories with two patients who are USC fans. Davis and Kalil visited other wounded warriors at the MATC and concluded with a visit to the USO Warrior & Family Center.

SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS HOST LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS FOR T.H.I.N.K. GOLD! CONFERENCE

Along with the Bay Area Women's Sports Initiative (BAWSI), the 49ers recently hosted 50 female high school students for a day of inspiration, goal-setting, football fundamentals, strength and conditioning training, and team-bonding. The sixth annual T.H.I.N.K. (Training, Health, Inspiration, Nutrition and Knowledge) Gold! Conference featured guest speakers including 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh and defensive line coach Jim Tomsula. Attendees participated in a series of character building activities – lead by 49ers team co-owners Jenna and Mara York. The young women then took their positive attitudes to the turf for training tips from 49ers Head Strength and Conditioning Coach Mark Uyeyama, supported by Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach Kevin Tolbert. One of the final sessions featured an exclusive look inside the 49ers Sports Medicine and Football Operations departments led by Vice President of Football Operations Jeff Ferguson.

WASHINGTON REDSKINS OWNER DAN SNYDER AND TANYA SNYDER HONORED AT HOPE AWARDS

Redskins owner Dan Snyder and his wife, Tanya, were recently awarded the Charles B. Wang International Children's Award at the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children's (NCMEC) annual Hope Awards Dinner in Washington, D.C.

The Snyders were recognized for their continued support of the NCMEC, which includes funding the Daniel M. Snyder and Family Communications Center in the D.C. area. Opened in 1999, the Daniel M. Snyder and Family Communications Center fields calls 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, from those responding to NCMEC awareness campaigns on behalf of endangered kids.

"We are very humbled to be named as recipients of this award, and we look forward to continuing our relationship with the National Center," Dan Snyder said. "Their work is astounding, and, as parents, we want to help make sure all families who are faced with these issues have access to the vital support the National Center provides."

YOUTH FOOTBALL PLAYERS, PARENTS & COACHES TAKE PART IN DRAFT PANEL DISCUSSIONS

On Day Three of the NFL Draft, more than 400 youth football players, parents, and coaches participated in panel discussions at Radio City Music Hall in New York on Heads Up Football and the important role parents and coaches play in youth sports. Panelists included USA Football Master Trainers, former players Mike Haynes and Ruben Brown. They were joined by Heads Up Football Advisory Committee members and sports moms Chris Golic and Amanda Rodriguez and former players Donovin Darius and Keith Elias.
