Tuesday's health and safety news from the world of football:
- The Indianapolis Star reported that Indianapolis Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri was ordered to take a random drug test, one day after he kicked a 53-yard field goal with lots of room to spare. Vinatieri, 42, is the oldest player in the NFL.
- The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that the Pittsburgh Steelers' doctors said quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and tight end Heath Miller were cleared for return to play after it was quickly determined they did not need to go through concussion protocol.
- CBS Sports reported that NFL Scouting Combine invitations have gone out with the event starting on a Saturday (Feb. 17) with offensive skill position players kicking off the workouts.
- The study that said children do not need extended rest after a concussion continued to receive widespread media attention, including Bloomberg News, Education Week and the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
- KNSD-TV in San Diego looked at how a local non-profit organization is trying to track concussions among area high school football teams.
- Cult of Mac reported on the Linx IAX sports monitor for injuries that debuted at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
