The NFL will announce the latest winners for the concussion research funding Monday at the league's newest facility.
Levi's Stadium, the new home of the San Francisco 49ers in Santa Clara, Calif., will be the backdrop as Under Armour, the NFL and GE will award the seven winners of the Head Health Challenge II.
The Challenge winners were selected from nearly 500 proposals from 19 countries during the submission period.
The awards will be announced by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank, CEO of GE Ventures Sue Siegel, U.S. Deputy Secretary of Commerce Bruce H. Andrews, San Francisco 49ers Co-Chairman Dr. John York and NBC News chief medical editor Dr. Nancy Snyderman.
The winners each receive $500,000 award to develop their studies and Under Armour, NFL and GE will monitor their progress during the next year. As many as five of the awardees can earn an additional $1,000,000 in funding in 2015, contingent upon continued innovation advancements, potential for commercialization and on-field impact.
During the event, winners will provide demonstrations of the technology they are developing.
Also, Under Armour, NFL and GE will announce their latest research event, Head Health Challenge III. The third Challenge will feature a collaboration with U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
