Is Rivers past his prime?
San Diego Chargers coach Mike McCoy was in-studio and said that Philip Rivers is going to have a career year. Warren Sapp thought otherwise. He said that Rivers used to be an elite quarterback but has made too many red zone mistakes and turnovers over the past two years. McCoy agreed that Rivers needs to go back to the basics and said that the goal was to shore up the offensive line and raise Rivers' completion percentage.
32 in 32: Patriots
Willie McGinest pegs the New England Patriots to finish 10-6 with a 5-1 division record. The Patriots lost two key offensive targets in Wes Welker and Aaron Hernandez, but McGinest believes Welker is by far the bigger loss. McGinest said Tom Brady and Welker had great chemistry and feels that, while Hernandez was a great player, Welker has been one of the best receivers in the league. McGinest put the spotlight on Danny Amendola to step up this year and fill in some of the gaps. He also said that Shane Vereen would contribute to the passing game and that it's the only way the Pats can even approach last year's production.
Most valuable franchise player?
Sapp feels it's ridiculous that Buffalo Bills safety Jairus Byrd can even believe that he is close to being a top safety. He says Byrd should just sign his tender and play like he did in his Pro Bowl rookie season before he can start believing otherwise. McGinest went with Dallas Cowboys pass rusher Anthony Spencer for most valuable franchise player. McGinest believes that Spencer will be productive and aggressive off the edge. Sapp chose Kansas City Chiefs offensive tackle Branden Albert as the most valuable of the franchise players.
Rivers examined
McCoy explained how Rivers should not force throws when the openings aren't there. However, he said Rivers has a stronger arm than people give him credit for. McCoy said the timing between Rivers and his receivers is excellent.
Cromartie's importance
Sapp believes it's obvious that Antonio Cromartie is important to the New York Jets, but the real story lies with the team's defensive line. McGinest stated that Cromartie will take hold of the leadership role and be successful. McGinest says Cromartie is one of the league's premier defensive backs and knows he will fill the void left by the departure of Darrelle Revis.
What team is primed heading into camp?
McGinest chose the Seattle Seahawks because they had a solid 2012 campaign and made key pickups like Percy Harvin, Michael Bennett, Antoine Winfield and Cliff Avril.
