Eagles QBs
Aditi Kinkhabwala said Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly is in no rush to name a starter at QB. Willie McGinest said we must remember that training camp is an evaluation of who better fits the gameplan. He reiterated that Kelly will take his time with this decision as long as he has the team ready for Week 1.
Improved rushing attack in Big D?
Desmond Purnell said off-the-field issues with the now-retired Josh Brent and recent injuries are not a good start for a team trying to implement a new defensive scheme. Coach Jason Garrett said everybody must block better -- the offensive line and the receiving corps. Shaun O'Hara looks at 648 passing attempts from Tony Romo and feels the offensive line must stay healthy in order to take some of the burden off Romo's shoulders. McGinest agreed that the Cowboys have to hand the ball off more. He said that in DeMarco Murray's four 100-yard games over the past two years, the Cowboys have gone undefeated.
Witten talks 'Boys
Jason Witten is the longest-tenured Cowboy. He said not making the playoffs for so many of those seasons has been disappointing. The All-Pro tight end is excited about the core group of guys and the incoming young players. He believes that the Cowboys have the pieces to make a long run into the playoffs. When O'Hara asked about his health, Witten replied that the collective bargaining agreement's new scheduling will help with the wear and tear.
Patriots distractions
McGinest believes that New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick will take the brunt of the media focus at Wednesday's news conference and say that the team is moving on from Hernandez. All of the players will go on playing football and not talk about the off-field issues with the media since Hernandez is no longer on the team. O'Hara added that the players must ignore the extra attention, but among themselves, they still are wondering how they will replace the loss of production. McGinest said that in the end it is up to Tom Brady to step up.
Ravens look to repeat
Although the Baltimore Ravens lost a lot of impact players and leaders, McGinest said the new guys must make a name for themselves and be dominant on their own. O'Hara said that while the Ravens do not have the same caliber of talent, the team has new motivation.
Primed for rebound years
O'Hara went with the New Orleans Saints because of their offensive firepower. McGinest chose the Chicago Bears because of the depth of their receiving corps and improvement in the trenches, but he added that they must stay healthy.
