The NFL Players Association has filed two grievances on behalf of Aaron Hernandez against his former team, the New England Patriots, for pay withheld, NFL Media's Albert Breer reported Wednesday.
Hernandez is being held without bail in a Bristol County, Mass. jail while he awaits trial on a first-degree murder charge, as well as multiple weapons violations. The Patriots released the tight end in June, just hours before the murder charge was announced.
The non-injury grievances were filed this week by the NFLPA, Breer reported. In total, they seek $6.21 million that the union believes the Patriots already owe or will owe Hernandez, according to Breer.
The second grievance stated the union anticipates the Patriots also withholding $3.25 million in deferred signing bonus money, which will be due to Hernandez on March 31, 2014.
