San Francisco 49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman underwent surgery Tuesday morning to repair the torn ACL in his left knee.
According to a source close to Bowman, renowned surgeon Dr. James Andrews' team performed the surgery, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported.
In a photo Bowman posted on his Instagram account, the All-Pro was dressed in a hospital gown with the caption "time for surgery."
Rapoport reported in January that Bowman also suffered a torn MCL during the 49ers' NFC Championship Game loss to the Seattle Seahawks, but no surgery would be needed as the ligament would heal with rest.
Rapoport added that the hope is for Bowman to be ready for the beginning of the 2014 season.
The defensive stalwart recorded career highs last season with 125 solo tackles, five sacks, two interceptions and four forced fumbles.
