The San Francisco 49ers' offense is a trolley wreck.
With Colin Kaepernick struggling in the passing game, defenses are loading up against Carlos Hyde and stuffing the run game, discombobulating the operation.
Offensive coordinator Geep Chryst said he's made some tweaks this week in advance of Sunday night's tilt with the New York Giants.
"We made some major changes -- I shouldn't say major -- we've made some changes, some adjustments, that we feel good about going into this game," Chryst said, via CSN Bay Area.
Chryst declined to indicate what those adjustments might entail, but they can't be worse than the past two weeks.
The 49ers have 172 passing yards over past two games combined. The struggles have magnified Kaepernick's regression sans Jim Harbaugh. Among quarterbacks with at least three starts, Kap ranks 22nd in completion percentage (62.1); 29th in passing yards (727); 29th in passer rating (67.7); and tied for 30th in TD passes (2).
Chryst admitted his young signal-caller is under the microscope.
"It puts a lot of pressure on these games, right?" Chryst said on Thursday. "It puts a lot of pressure on a Sunday night game. Traditionally, Kap has played well in the spotlight.
"You're playing this out in front of everybody. Literally, in front of everybody: The Niner fans, the coaches and your teammates. And people are going to weigh in on it."
Nearly everything about the 49ers' offense is poor, from Kap's inability to get the ball out of his hands quickly, to his awful progressions, to the incapability of the offensive line to block a soul.
"There's no doubt when you're out of sync, out of rhythm, you're timing's off and it doesn't look pretty," Chryst said.
"Doesn't look pretty," well, isn't that the truth?
