Nix: Bills' voyage into free agency might be quick

If Bills general manager Buddy Nix has his way, Buffalo will act swiftly and with precision when it comes to free agency.

"We'd like to be out of the business by Friday," Nix told WGR-AM on Tuesday, via the team's official website. "The big splash for us could be over in a week."

Added Nix: "You have to fill as many needs in free agency, since it comes first. Then you add to your depth in the draft."

Perhaps some players around the league wonder about Buffalo as a landing spot, considering its suspect climate and small-city vibe, but Nix believes when available free agents speak with today's Bills stars, that problem is addressed.

"I'm excited that (our) players have enough faith in our program that they reach out to their peers to speak well about the Bills," Nix said.

Maybe you've heard that a guy by the name of Peyton Manning is available? Well, Nix is aware that no sales pitch would lure the gem of free agency to Buffalo -- and the team hasn't pursued the former Colts star. Still, if Miami lands Manning, the Bills will face him twice a year, a challenge that Nix invites.

"We face Tom Brady two times a year," he said. "Why not throw Manning in the mix?"
