Notre Dame junior linebacker Jarrett Grace will miss the rest of the season with a broken right leg.

Grace (6-feet-2, 253 pounds), a junior, was a first-year starter who was tied for the team lead in tackles with 40. He suffered the injury in the first half of Saturday night's win over Arizona State in Arlington, Texas, and had surgery Sunday in the Dallas area.

Things we learned in Week 6

From Marcus Mariota's seven-TD performance to freshman Jameis Winston's KO of Maryland, here are 40 things we learned about Week 6 in college football. **More ...**

He'll be replaced in the starting lineup by senior Dan Fox, whom he beat out in fall camp. Fox (6-2, 245) was a starter last season, and he had an interception return for a touchdown Saturday night that iced the victory. Fox has played extensively this season and has 36 tackles, which is third on the team behind Grace and senior inside linebacker Carlo Calabrese, who also has 40 stops.

Notre Dame had rotated the three at the two inside linebacker spots, and with Grace's injury, junior Kendall Moore (6-1, 251) likely becomes part of the trio. He has just two tackles this season and has seen most of his playing time on special teams.

Coach Brian Kelly told reporters that inside linebacker "wasn't an area with a lot of experience."

Notre Dame also lost backup wide receiver Daniel Smith for the season with a broken right ankle. Smith, a senior whose college career now is over, had one catch this season.
