Notre Dame is playing its bowl game in Yankee Stadium this season and will play a regular-season game against Boston College at Fenway Park in 2015, the school announced Friday.

While Fenway Park has played host to some New England Patriots games, it never has been the site of a "major college football game with national appeal," the Boston Globe noted.

Boston College played 76 football games at Fenway Park from 1914-56; the last came against Holy Cross in a battle of private, Catholic-affiliated, Boston-area schools.

Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick held a news conference Friday to talk about the Irish's football scheduling in the coming years. He touched on his scheduling goals, which include maximizing geographic reach, playing in "special" places, maintaining a high-ranking strength of schedule and playing six home games on an annual basis.

Swarbrick said Notre Dame will play Navy, USC and Stanford each season through 2022. He called Notre Dame's rivalry with USC the school's most important, followed by the Stanford rivalry and the annual game with Navy.

In the four seasons from 2013-16, Notre Dame will play a regularly scheduled game in nine of the 12 largest cities in the United States, according to IrishIllustrated.com.

Notre Dame becomes an adjunct football member of the ACC next season, with five games annually scheduled against league foes. Next season also marks the end of the Michigan series, at least for the foreseeable future.
