Odell Beckham is a tortured artist.
His two defining plays -- The Catch, and now The Catch Part II -- have both come in losses to divisional opponents. Sunday afternoon's diving grab against the Redskins was spectacular, and sent Beckham into a frenzy. He went to a section of Giants fans sitting along the team's bench at FedEx Field, and began waving his arms to try and get the crowd back on his side.
Alas, his mood afterwards was downtrodden.
"It really doesn't matter; we didn't win," Beckham told The Record. "(Manning) threw the ball out there and I laid out for it. I tried to catch it, and it is what it is. We lost the game. It's not really something that is important right now."
Washington tackle Trent Williams begged to differ.
"What can you say about that? That's not human. What I'm thinking: 'How did you make that?'"
Beckham seems to be hitting all the right notes. Deep down, he's probably insanely impressed with what he was able to do. For a player that has earned a bit of a reputation in the NFL, however, Beckham has been nothing but a team-first personality since he arrived in New York. Though he may autograph photographic copies of his catch later down the line, it wasn't a discussion topic in a game the Giants needed to win.
If nothing else, the Giants desperately need to find a way to diversify their weapons. Rueben Randle re-emerged to nab a long touchdown grab in the second half on Sunday, but offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo is often left with few options beyond let's just chuck it to Odell!
We can't blame him though. Did you see that catch? Williams is right, it's not human.
