Panthers WR Smith active despite sore ribs; Jets without two CBs

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith is active for Sunday's game against the New York Jets after being listed as questionable with sore ribs.

Smith was added to the Panthers' injury list Saturday, but it was unclear when he was injured.

Panthers reserve defensive end Charles Johnson didn't make the trip to New York and will miss his second consecutive game because of a strained chest muscle.

The Jets are down a few cornerbacks. Dwight Lowery (high ankle sprain) and Donald Strickland (concussion) aren't active because of injuries, and backup cornerback-kick returner Justin Miller was waived Saturday after reportedly missing a team meeting earlier in the day. Miller could be replaced on kickoffs by David Clowney or Brad Smith.
