Patriots guard Logan Mankins reportedly played through the Super Bowl with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, and he underwent a surgical procedure on the knee in the weeks after the loss, a source confirmed to the Boston Herald.
Mankins, who started 15 games in 2011, likely suffered a partial tear of the ligament, a person with knowledge of his condition told the Herald.
A source told the newspaper that Mankins' goal is to be back by the start of training camp.
In case Mankins begins the season on the physically unable to perform list, the Patriots would not be left in the lurch. They beefed up their offensive line depth Monday when they agreed to terms on a deal with Robert Gallery, a league source told NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora.
