On Wednesday's podcast, we dug into a *Thursday Night Football* tilt that pits the struggling New York Jets against a rival New England Patriots team now equipped with Darrelle Revis.
After building his career in New York generating headaches for Tom Brady, Revis has crossed enemy lines, set to square off against a Geno Smith-led Jets attack that's failed to achieve liftoff.
On top of battling Gang Green wideout Eric Decker on Thursday night, the cornerback also hinted at being used as a receiver against the defense he once led.
"I mean, I'm very confident in catching balls," Revis told the Boston Herald. "I know that. We've got some great receivers on this team. Usually when something happens like that, it's the depth chart, maybe injuries. Knock on wood, I hope we don't get to that point.
"But if there was an opportunity, if Bill (Belichick) came to me and said we need help, I'm willing to do whatever coach says. And that's any position. That's just what it is. We get asked to do some crazy things sometimes. Whatever coach needs me to play, I'll be up for the challenge."
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport noted Thursday on NFL Total Access Kickoff that it wouldn't be a surprise if Revis sees offensive snaps against the Jets, noting that what the cover man "wanted more than anything else was to play offense and catch a pass against his former team. Look for him in the red zone especially."
It wouldn't be a total departure for Belichick. After all, the Pats coach often deployed linebacker Mike Vrabel as a goal-line tight end while using wideouts Troy Brown and Julian Edelman at cornerback.
Such trickery, though, isn't needed by today's Patriots. A healthy Rob Gronkowski was a beast against the Buffalo Bills while wideouts Brandon LaFell and Brian Tyms helped spark Brady's deep game against Buffalo. New England's once-troubled attack has ripped off 80 points in its past two games after scoring 80 in its first four tilts combined.
From that angle, it makes plenty of sense.
