Pennington back in starting lineup at QB for Jets

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Chad Pennington was back as the New York Jets' starting quarterback Sunday against the Miami Dolphins.

Pennington was replaced last week at Baltimore by Kellen Clemens after spraining his right ankle in the season opener against New England. Pennington was listed as questionable on the team's injury report Friday, and said earlier in the week his goal was "to be available."

He received a loud standing ovation from the crowd at Giants Stadium as he jogged onto the field with 9:04 left in the first quarter.

Clemens was impressive while leading the Jets on a fourth-quarter comeback attempt in a 20-13 loss last Sunday, but coach Eric Mangini said Pennington is the starter as long as he's healthy. Pennington looked good in practice during the week, putting his full weight on the ankle in drills.

Pennington was injured when he was sacked in the third quarter of the 38-14 loss to New England. He missed one play, but came back on New York's next series and led the Jets to a touchdown before pulling himself late in the fourth quarter.

Clemens started in his place Sunday against Baltimore, and was impressive in the final 15 minutes of a 20-13 loss. He finished 19-of-37 for 260 yards a touchdown and two interceptions in his first NFL start.
