The Indianapolis Colts are averaging an NFL-best 31.5 points per game and lead the league in total yards per game (444), passing yards per game (328.7) and time of possession (36:28).
A year after insisting on sticking with a plodding running game that lacked talent, offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton has unleashed an offense that runs on the strength of Andrew Luck and a diverse set of receiving weapons.
For example, T.Y. Hilton and Reggie Wayne have 1,023 receiving yards combined in 2014, the most in the NFL for any receiving duo.
The running game behind the strength of Ahmad Bradshaw's resurgence and an improved -- if not dynamic -- Trent Richardson has provided the balance Hamilton has been looking for.
"This is what we envisioned from the standpoint of having the personnel that allows us to do a lot of different things," Hamilton said this week, per The Indianapolis Star. "It puts pressure on the defense to decide who they want to try and take away. We feel like we present a conflict to our opponents because we have so many guys on the field at any given time that can make a play for us."
The Colts' offense has been specifically efficient in third-down situations -- again, thank Luck for that -- which has allowed them that league-leading time of possession. That in turn has helped the defense mask its deficiencies with physical play throughout the course of a game.
Against a Bengals defense that is ranked 28th in total yards this season, Indy's offense should be in for another good day on Sunday.
