INDIANAPOLIS -- Pete Carroll hasn't followed Richard Sherman's Twitter beef with Darrelle Revis beat for beat -- forgive him, he's busy -- but it didn't surprise the Seattle Seahawks coach to hear that his All-Pro cornerback was back in the news.
"It's obvious that Richard's got a lot of free time on his hands," Carroll told reporters Friday at the NFL Scouting Combine.
"I haven't read one word he said. I just see the pictures and the mouth open and I know what's going on. He's having fun with it. Richard knows what he's doing. He's having fun playing with the whole thing. And he had a tremendous season and a very, very good last season, so he's got something to stand on right now. It's better (than) when he used to talk when he didn't."
Both Carroll and Seahawks general manager John Schneider laughed off Sherman's social-media antics this week.
Carroll acknowledged "Mr. Revis" might not have delighted in the online flare-up, but backed his player by saying, "I think (Sherman's) a great corner. I think he's playing tremendous football. I think not enough people know about him yet, although he's working on that. ... I've never known how you scale the very best corner, you know, but he's up there in consideration."
Here's what else we learned from Carroll:
» On Charles Woodson possibly joining the Seahawks: "I mean Charles has been a great football player. I don't know if this is the time and place or not, I know he's looking for a spot right now, but guys of that kind of caliber, it would be a great opportunity to have him get to play with our young guys. I don't know if it would ever work out, we'll see."
» On being reluctant to shop Matt Flynn with Russell Wilson facing potential injury as a running quarterback: "I don't look at it in terms of an injury risk with a running quarterback, but I would say to have a caliber of second quarterback ready to go like Matt, that's a great deal for us. And so, we're very solidly in favor of keeping that together if we could."
» On Wilson's hard-nosed work ethic: "The rules now and the guidelines (post-lockout) really have hindered his activity. He wants to be out there throwing and playing catch with guys and working out, and he can't right now. And there's a lot of guys in the league that are like that, and I know Russell's one of those. He's just a true worker. He wants to be at it and he wants to get better and he wants to be the best there ever was."

» On Wilson being the best player on the field over the final few weeks of the season: "I do agree with that. At that time and those places, I thought he was the best player on the field. And what's really exciting about that, is that's really what John (Schneider) came to me and said, you know, during the early part of his senior college season, he goes, 'This guy's the best player on the field wherever he goes, he's going to be the best guy.' By his command of the game and the style and athleticism and all of that, and it was really exciting from the second half of the season, there was many games when he looked like the best guy out there."
