Temple opens camp Aug. 5 looking for, among other things, two new starting guards, and the Owls have a new candidate for one of those open starting positions.

Pete White has transferred from Maryland, and because he already has graduated, he will be eligible immediately.

White (6-feet-4, 320 pounds) played in just 23 games in his time at Maryland, including six starts in 2011 and one in '10. Injuries limited him to three games last season; he had shoulder surgery in the spring of 2012.

White was a consensus top-20 guard nationally in the 2009 signing class. He is considered much further along as a run blocker than as a pass blocker. Temple is moving from a run-heavy spread attack to a more balanced offense, one that will incorporate some no-huddle philosophies. New coach Matt Rhule, who had been the assistant offensive line coach with the New York Giants, hired Marcus Satterfield away from FCS member Chattanooga to oversee the offense. Satterfield used a spread attack with the Mocs.
