Philbin asks Dolphins fans for trust, confidence

It's been a turbulent offseason for Dolphins fans, but the team's new leader is asking for a touch of patience.

Dolphins coach Joe Philbin sat down for a 45-minute conference call with season-ticket holders Tuesday to address the future. He faced a tough audience.

Mauricio in Miami-Dade asked Philbin to unleash his best halftime speech for fans openly questioning why hard-earned money should be spent on Dolphins tickets.

"My experience is that with every successful organization in any sport, you have to have good people," Philbin said, per The Miami Herald. "You have to have faith and confidence in those people. I have great confidence in (owner) Steve Ross and (general manager) Jeff Ireland. Sometimes you just have to have faith. I'm asking for your faith and confidence that I'm going to be able to deliver results."

As it stands, the Dolphins head into next season with Matt Moore and David Garrard at quarterback. Not deeply comforting for a fan base that saw Peyton Manning pass over Miami for Denver and Matt Flynndeemed too pricey by Ireland and Co.

Harrison: 12 for '12

Moore was an adequate starter last season, but who believes the Dolphins are done hunting for a franchise quarterback? Ryan Tannehill and Brandon Weeden are widely considered potential draft-day targets. Without a clear starter, winning the AFC East remains a goal only in theory.

Later in the call, Philbin was pressed for specifics: How will Miami's offense function in 2012?

"(Offensive coordinator) Mike Sherman will call the game," Philbin said. "I get to put in one play per week, but I don't get to call it."

A gag on Philbin's part, but the fan base has seen enough comedy of late. Specifics and tangible progress are required now in South Beach.
