With one week to prepare for San Diego's playoff game against the Denver Broncos, Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt spent a chunk of that time looking for a gig.
After meeting with the coach-needy Lions on Thursday, the Titans on Friday and the Browns on Saturday, Whiz's packed slate led to questions about his level of preparation for Denver, a theory quarterback Philip Rivers shot to the floor Monday.
"I think that's crazy, honestly. He was all in, all week," Rivers said one day after the 24-17 loss to the Broncos, per U-T San Diego. "He handled it like a pro."
Asked Sunday if Whisenhunt was distracted, Chargers coach Mike McCoy said: "I'll stop you right there. Not one bit."
In reality, the biggest problem for San Diego was an improved Broncos defense that's allowed fewer than 260 total yards in four of its past five games.
If Whiz, indeed, is history, Rivers believes quarterbacks coach Frank Reich "would be great" as the next play-caller. On that front, NFL Media columnist Michael Silver tweeted Monday that Whisenhunt had conversations last week with a handful of Chargers assistants about possibly joining him at his next stop, per a source familiar with the talks.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport was told the Titans are "very interested" in Whisenhunt, who reportedly shares a mutual interest in the Tennessee job. The Lions job remains in play, but Rapoport was told that Whiz -- a former Vanderbilt assistant -- feels comfortable with both the Titans' front office and the city.
