Philip Rivers heads into the final year of his contract with the Chargers as swirls of uncertainty surround the franchise's future in San Diego.
Rivers told XEPRS-AM in San Diego on Monday that all the "noise" about the team possibly relocating to Los Angeles isn't something to get "riled up" about. He added he hopes the Chargers don't move, but any potential relocation isn't going to play a major role in discussions about his future with the team.
"Is the location of this team going to be a deciding factor? I can't honestly tell you that it will be," Rivers said, via ESPN.com. "Is it a factor at all? Sure, but I can't tell you that it's at the top of the list, because it's just really not. That goes without saying I hope we're staying. But should we move, it doesn't move to the top of my list for deterrents for not being a Charger."
The quarterback is set to make $15.75 million in base salary in 2015 with a $17 million cap hit. Both sides want to work out a deal, but have yet to start discussing any restructuring to Rivers' contract, per ESPN.
Sitting in the upper echelon of performers at the league's most important position, Rivers is set to get paid in line with the top tier of veteran quarterbacks in what could be his final contract. What city he's cashing those checks in will be a decision for others to determine.
