While we wouldn't call it a full-fledged "movement" quite yet, a potential reunion between the San Diego Chargers and LaDainian Tomlinson has become a topic of conversation in San Diego the last few days.
First came the huge reception for Tomlinson at the celebration of Junior Seau's life. Then came a column from Jay Paris in the North County Times, wherein Paris pleads with general manager A.J. Smith to "swallow his pride" and sign Tomlinson. The Chargers, after all, need a third-down back. This almost makes sense. Almost.
Last came an interview with quarterback Philip Rivers on XEPRS-AM in San Diego, during which he was asked about Tomlinson.
"I love LT and all that he brought and meant to us when he was here. I don't know if that is being considered or that's even an option, but I wouldn't have any objection to it whatsoever," Rivers said, via SportsRadioInterviews.com.
So there is any fire to this smoke? Probably not.
The Chargers could, again, use a third-down back, but there are other options out there. (Can someone give Justin Forsett a job already?) Tomlinson brings some baggage to the locker room, and has even more baggage when it comes to the front office.
It's hard to see A.J. Smith getting over his ugly divorce with Tomlinson two years ago. Smith has a lot of defined personality traits, and we'd put "stubborn" on top of the list.
