Police release dashboard video of Jadeveon Clowney stop

A dashboard camera video of South Carolina star defensive end Jadeveon Clowney being pulled over for his second speeding ticket in less than a month was released by police Friday, but this time, Clowney had an excuse at the ready: Apparently, Clowney was running late to meet the team for its departure to Orlando for the Capital One Bowl.

Clowney was ticketed for traveling 84 mph in a 55 mph zone.

When asked by the police officer why he was speeding, Clowney says he has three minutes to be at the stadium, because the team is leaving for Florida:

Not that even Clowney could talk his way out of a ticket at 29 mph over the posted limit, but as excuses go, this wasn't much of one. After all, it's not as though the Gamecocks' bus to the airport would have pulled away from Williams-Brice Stadium without the best defensive player in the nation.

On Dec. 10, the South Carolina Highway Patrol released the video from Clowney's first ticket, in which he was clocked at 110 mph in a 70 mph zone. South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier, for his part, isn't even feigning the possibility that Clowney will come back to play for the Gamecocks in his senior year.

"At least he'll have enough money to pay for it a week or so from now," Spurrier quipped when asked about the ticket.

Assuming Spurrier is right, Clowney's new agent may want to assign him a personal driver for the next few months leading up to the 2014 NFL Draft.

And perhaps beyond.
