Greg McElroy won't be part of the New York Jets' quarterback picture this season.
After being waived Saturday, the 2011 seventh-round draft pick will fly to Cincinnati on Monday. McElroy is "destined for the Bengals' practice squad," a person who spoke to the QB told NFL.com's Ian Rapoport on Sunday.
McElroy released a statement Sunday on Twitter, thanking the Jets and their fans while commending general manager John Idzik on the "remarkable vision" he has set for the organization this year.

Scott Tolzien, Green Bay Packers quarterback: The Packers' new No. 3 quarterback spent the past two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, who just happen to be Green Bay's Week 1 opponent. Coincidence? Probably not. The Packers also managed to keep athletic seventh-round wide receiver Charles Johnson on their practice squad.
Thaddeus Lewis, Buffalo Bills quarterback: As is the case with Tolzien, Lewis effectively is the Bills' No. 3 quarterback after passing through waivers unclaimed. Coach Doug Marroneplans to determine Wednesday whether EJ Manuel or Jeff Tuel will start the season opener versus the Patriots. Manuel returned to practice Sunday.
Ricardo Lockette, Chicago Bears wide receiver: The perennial offseason star caught 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh's eye in non-contact practices, but never came close to making the 49ers' final roster.
Greg Salas, Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver: Salas shined in preseason action, but coach Chip Kelly opted to go with former Oregon star Jeff Maehl as the Eagles' fifth receiver.
Robert Lester, Carolina Panthers safety: Though Lester went undrafted out of Alabama this year, the Panthers' own website viewed him as an option to start after offseason training activities. His relative lack of speed and athleticism caught up to him once the pads came on in August.
Matt Furstenburg, Baltimore Ravens: An undrafted "move" tight end out of Maryland, Fursternburg caught the coaching staff's eye in training camp, but the tight end lost his roster spot to Dallas Clark.
