Patriots backup QB Andrew Walter: The Patriots released backup QB Kevin O'Connel, a third-round draft pick in 2208, leaving Walter as Tom Brady's primary backup, followed by undrafted rookie free agent Brian Hoyer. The Patriots are rumored to have interest in a veteran QB, but Walter could quiet that noise with a strong performance against the Giants. With Brady bursing a sore throwing shoulder, Walter should see plenty of opportunities to showcase his talents. Walter hasn't seen the field since Week 1 of the preseason, when he completed 5 of 9 pass attempts for 62 yards.

On the Fringe receiver David Tyree: Tyree acknowledged that Thursday's game could be his last hurrah with the G-men, as he has made little impact this preseason. Tyree has not made a reception in two appearances and has battled minor knee, hamstring and groin injuries, but is expected to see some playing time in Week 4 of the preseason -- typically the week when older veterans trying to make final roster cuts see the most work. If it is Tyree's last game in a Giants uniform, it will fittingly come against the Patriots -- the same team in which he made one of the more memorable catches in Super Bowl history.
