Quick Take: Redskins at Panthers

Keep your eye on ...

Redskins RB Clinton Portis: The star rusher has yet to play much during the preseason. He has sat out two of three games and played only a quarter in the other contest (seven carries against the Bills on Aug. 9). Look for Portis to receive his most extensive playing time against the Panthers as the coaching staff seeks to get him acclimated to game action.

Redskins punter Derrick Frost: The incumbent gets his turn to showcase his skills after rookie Durant Brooks handled the punting duties vs. the Jets. Frost is engaged in a heated battle with Brooks to win the punting job and an outstanding performance could tilt the competition to his favor.

Panthers rookie Jonathan Stewart: Drafted 13th overall, Stewart was expected to compete for the starting running back job with veteran DeAngelo Williams. He had toe surgery prior to the draft, which slowed him in offseason practices and during the start of training camp. Stewart struggled in brief action in his debut last week at Philadelphia.

Panthers DE Julius Peppers: The former Pro Bowl performer did not play at a high level last season, but appears to be back to his elite form midway through the preseason. He already has four tackles and a sack in limited action and faces a good test in Pro Bowl left tackle Chris Samuels of the Redskins.
