Quick Take: Redskins outlast Jets

It was over when ...
Kicker Shaun Suisham nailed a 46-yard field goal in overtime -- his fifth on the day -- to give the Redskins the win. The Jets won the coin toss and immediately completed a 39-yard pass on the first play from scrimmage in the extra session, but they bogged down at the Redskins' 40-yard line and punted. They never got another chance as Washington marched down the field on the ensuing possession to set up the field goal.

Game balls
Redskins running back Clinton Portis had his first 100-yard game of the season and did it in style, with 196 yards on the ground. Jets linebacker David Harris finished with 24 tackles (20 solo), including the key stop on Portis late in the fourth quarter that allowed the Jets to embark on their game-tying field goal drive.

Key stat
During the week, Washington coach Joe Gibbs said improving the power running game was the key to the team being more effective on offense. His solution to getting that rushing attack going was to increase the intensity of practices. For one game at least, it worked. The Redskins ran the ball 48 times for 296 yards (6.2 yards per attempt).

Noteworthy
Jets quarterback Kellen Clemens was productive in his second career start. He completed 23-of-42 passes for 226 yards and a touchdown. ... Redskins linebacker Rocky McIntosh, in and out of last week's loss to New England with an ailing shoulder, made several big plays. He finished with 12 tackles and a sack.
