Quick Take: Washington shines in debut

What we learned …

Kyle Boller hot and cold: The quarterback looked great at times in leading the Ravens to a field goal on his first drive, but threw an interception in the second quarter. He finished with 102 passing yards in a little more than one quarter of action.

Fabian Washington solidifies the Ravens secondary: With the debuts of rookie coach John Harbaugh and rookie QB Joe Flacco receiving all the attention, Washington captured the spotlight in his first game as a Raven. He intercepted two passes and added a pair of tackles in a dominating performance.

Patriots' reserve QBs have a ways to go: With Tom Brady sitting out, the focus was on fill-in starter Matt Cassell and third-stringer Matt Gutierrez to show they were worthy of the backup job. Both struggled mightily. Cassell had as many interceptions as completions -- one, and Gutierrez also threw a pick.

Jerod Mayo and Shawn Crable have serious potential: The Patriots rookie linebackers made a series of eye-catching plays throughout the game. Mayo delivered several jarring hits, while Crable had an impressive interception.
