Rams GM Devaney: New coach could be named in next week

ST. LOUIS -- The St. Louis Rams could name a head coach in the next week, general manager Billy Devaney said Monday on the team's website.

Devaney said the hire could come "at the end of this week or shortly after. I would say we are winding down. I think we are getting close."

Devaney did not return a telephone message from The Associated Press.

Interim head coach Jim Haslett is among the finalists, along with Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan and Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that Jason Garrett, the Cowboys' assistant head coach and offensive coordinator, was also a candidate.

Team owners and former president John Shaw, now a senior adviser, will sit in on the final interviews in Los Angeles. Frazier was scheduled for the first interview on Tuesday night.

The Rams met with Ryan in Baltimore on Sunday morning.
