EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson (quad) will not play Monday night against the New York Giants.
Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo had said earlier that Jackson's status would be a game-time decision, but the running back confirmed before kickoff that he would sit out.
"Just can't open up," Jackson said.
While en route to Giants Stadium to test his quad, Jackson tweeted: "I've been waiting a long time for this moment. But more importantly I have to be smart about the season."
New Rams running backs Cadillac Williams and Jerious Norwood will carry the load since Jackson can't go.
"It's nice to have options," Spagnuolo said. "Cadillac proved he's viable, and Jerious brings a different dynamic to the offense."
The Giants had better news on the injury front. Wide receiver Hakeem Nicks (knee) and defensive end Justin Tuck (neck) will play Monday night.
