Ramses Barden signs with Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars are adding much-needed depth at wide receiver.

The team signed former New York Giants wideout Ramses Barden, the team announced Wednesday.

Outside of a 10-catch, 138-yard performance against the Panthers on national television two years ago, Barden has been a flop since the Giants selected him at No. 85 overall in the 2009 NFL Draft. He was out of the league last season.

Although Barden offers intriguing size at 6-foot-6 and 225 pounds, he moves more like a tight end than a wide receiver and struggles to get open.

With Justin Blackmon and Ace Sanders starting the season under suspension and Cecil Shorts and Allen Robinson nursing hamstring injuries, the Jaguars simply need bodies at wide receiver. Barden will get a chance to open a few eyes during preseason action.
