Ramsey impressive, DT prospect helps himself at FSU's pro day

Representatives from 31 NFL teams -- including Buffalo Bills general manager Doug Whaley, Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert, Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht and Tennessee Titans general manager Jon Robinson, as well as Steelers coach Mike Tomlin -- were on hand for Florida State's pro day on Tuesday. The Cincinnati Bengals were the only team without a rep at the event.

A total of 13 FSU players worked out indoors and on FieldTurf.

Defensive back Jalen Ramsey -- 6-foot-1, 209 pounds -- stood on his outstanding numbers from the NFL Scouting Combine. He looked really good in the positional drills, and only had one dropped pass. Ramsey is probably a better safety than corner.

Defensive tackle Nile Lawrence-Stample -- 6-1 1/2, 314 -- ran the 40-yard dash in 5.15 and 5.13 seconds. He had a 27-inch vertical and 10-foot-5 broad jump. He did the 20-yard short shuttle in 4.78 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.81 seconds. He performed 24 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press. Lawrence-Stample had a good pro-day workout, and really helped his draft status.

Kicker Roberto Aguayo -- 6-0, 208 -- was impressive, with 100 percent of his kickoffs going out of the end zone. While he did miss two field goals, his pro day was outstanding.

Defensive end Giorgio Newberry -- 6-5 3/4, 284 -- has lost 20 pounds since the end of the season and it's made him a much more active athlete. He had 40 times of 4.94 and 4.84 seconds. He had a 30 1/2-inch vertical and 9-foot broad jump. He did the short shuttle in 4.66 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.34 seconds. He put the bar up 21 times on the bench press.

Linebacker Terrance Smith -- 6-3 1/8, 235 -- ran the 40 in 4.75 and 4.79 seconds. He had a 32 1/2-inch vertical and 10-foot-2 broad jump. He did the short shuttle in 4.89 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.14 seconds.

Safety Lamarcus Brutus -- 6-0, 205 -- ran the 40 in 4.69 and 4.7 seconds. He had a 33-inch vertical and 9-foot-6 broad jump. He did the short shutte in 4.29 seconds and the three-cone in 7.08 seconds.

Punter Cason Beatty -- 6-3 3/8, 214 -- did a good job directional punting and kicking for length, and is a rookie free-agent possibility for an NFL team.

FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher was all over the field helping out the scouts in attendance, and everybody was really pleased with the pro day.
