Oakland Raiders running back Rashad Jennings' performance over the pasttwo weeks might have sealed Darren McFadden's fate in a contract year.
Jennings has yet to nudge McFadden out of the starting job, but coach Dennis Allen hinted Monday that backfield roles will be adjusted going forward.
Allen confirmed that Jennings has earned more touches regardless of McFadden's health. Jennings has piled up 283 yards as the offense's lone productive player over the past two games while McFadden nurses yet another hamstring injury.
"It's a production business and when he's had the opportunity to go in there, he has produced," Allen explained, via CSN Bay Area. "When you do that, you get more opportunities."
Despite starting five fewer games than McFadden, Jennings has a 520-437 edge in total yards while averaging nearly two more yards per touch. Quite simply, Jennings has been a better fit in coordinator Greg Olson's offense.
McFadden, who turns 26 in August, was banking on a bounceback season to put himself in position for one last mega-contract. Instead, he's been outplayed by his backup while missing time with injuries for a sixth consecutive season.
It's easy to envision the Raiders moving on from an expensive, injury-prone running back in McFadden, who's averaging 3.37 yards per carry over the past two seasons.
