The Jacksonville Jaguarswill not re-sign cornerback Rashean Mathis, The Florida Times-Union's Ryan O'Halloran reported. General manager Dave Caldwell informed Mathis of the team's plans late Tuesday.
"Believe it or not, I'm at peace with everything," Mathis said. "Playing in my hometown for 10 years and doing things the right way, I'm blessed to be able to say that. Could I ask for anything more than that being drafted out of Bethune-Cookman? Who would have drawn that up? No painter could have drawn that up."

With Mathis aging and the 30th-ranked pass defense, the Jags already were likely to target some cornerback help this offseason. Cornerback Derek Cox remains unsigned, though the team would like to bring him back.
